About President Gordon B. Hinckley
Gordon B. Hinckley, the 15th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was a former English major in the College of the Humanities and a great Anglophile, whose mission in England fostered in him a lifelong love of British life and culture. President Hinckley particularly loved the Romantic poets, especially Wordsworth, and was capacious in his interests and enthusiasms: a great visionary, he saw early on the power and potential of the new medium of wireless radio in communicating to new audiences, producing a radio series on Church history as well as later embracing television in his work for the Church. We like to think President Hinckley would approve of the breadth and range of research in British Studies in the College of Humanities at his alma mater, encompassing, as it does, the most traditional topics of study in the Humanities, such as the study of Old English literature and President Hinckley’s beloved Romantic poets, as well as the most ultra contemporary, such as the narratives embedded in online digital games.
